Thesis supervision (undergraduate)

Transform your undergraduate thesis into real field research.

FEDIC FAUNA offers scientific supervision and practical support for undergraduate students who wish to develop meaningful research projects focused on Colombia’s fauna. We guide students through the entire process — from identifying a strong and relevant research question to collecting data in the field and producing a rigorous final thesis

Our approach combines academic mentorship with real-world field experience. Rather than purely theoretical projects, we encourage students to engage directly with biodiversity, ecosystems, and conservation challenges on the ground.

We support students in:

  • Defining a clear, feasible, and scientifically valuable research topic

  • Designing a robust methodology adapted to local conditions

  • Organizing field logistics in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta and surrounding areas

  • Conducting structured data collection

  • Analyzing results and interpreting findings

  • Writing and structuring the final thesis

  • Preparing work for potential scientific publication

When possible, thesis projects can be integrated into our ongoing research lines, allowing students to contribute to broader conservation objectives while gaining hands-on experience in wildlife research.

Our goal is not only to help students complete a degree requirement, but to train future biologists capable of conducting rigorous, ethical, and impactful research.

What to Expect

  • Scientific mentorship from professional biologists

  • Field-based research opportunities in Colombia

  • Support with logistics and local coordination

  • Methodological guidance and data analysis support

  • Structured feedback during thesis writing

  • Possibility of contributing to publishable research

Environmental consulting and specialized advisory services

FEDIC FAUNA provides science-based environmental consulting and expert advisory services to institutions, companies, NGOs, and conservation initiatives operating in Colombia. Our work supports responsible environmental management through rigorous biodiversity assessments and evidence-based ecological guidance.

We assist clients in conducting fauna surveys, ecological evaluations, and habitat assessments, generating reliable data that can inform environmental planning, impact mitigation strategies, and long-term sustainability decisions.

Our consulting services are grounded in field expertise and scientific methodology, ensuring that recommendations are technically sound and aligned with conservation principles.

Our advisory support may include biodiversity inventories, species monitoring, ecological risk assessment, wildlife management strategies, and guidance for projects requiring environmental compliance or conservation-oriented planning.

By combining scientific rigor with practical field experience, FEDIC FAUNA helps organizations integrate biodiversity considerations into their operations in a responsible and informed manner.

Conventional and science-based nature guiding

Explore the wild landscapes of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta with biologists who know the terrain not only as guides, but as field researchers.

FEDIC FAUNA offers immersive walking expeditions through tropical forests, foothills, river valleys, and transitional ecosystems of northern Colombia. Our excursions combine the thrill of real wildlife exploration with accurate biological interpretation, ensuring that every observation becomes both an experience and a learning opportunity.

We operate strictly as specialized field guides. We are not a hotel or tourism agency. However, we can recommend trusted local accommodations and, in specific cases, offer very simple shelter at our small, hand-built field station — designed for research and minimal-impact stays.

Each expedition can be adapted to your level of interest:

  • For visitors and nature lovers, we provide engaging and accessible explanations of species, behavior, and ecological roles — turning every encounter into a meaningful discovery.

  • For scientists, photographers, and advanced wildlife enthusiasts, we offer in-depth interpretation including taxonomy, conservation status, habitat specialization, functional ecology, and ecosystem dynamics.

Our expertise spans multiple taxa, including:

  • Birds

  • Amphibians and reptiles

  • Mammals, including iconic species such as the red howler monkey (Alouatta seniculus) and the giant anteater (Myrmecophaga tridactyla, locally known as oso palmero).

Whether you are searching for calling frogs at night, scanning the canopy for primates, or tracking mammals at dawn, our goal is to provide an experience that is adventurous, responsible, and scientifically grounded.

What to Expect

  • Guided walking excursions in the SNSM region

  • Flexible tour duration (half-day to multi-day field experiences)

  • Wildlife-focused exploration across taxa

  • Science-based interpretation adapted to your level

  • Ethical and responsible wildlife observation

  • Small group format for better immersion and minimal impact

Research projects

FEDIC FAUNA designs and conducts its own scientific research projects focused on Colombia’s wildlife and ecosystems, with a strong emphasis on field-based studies, biodiversity assessment, and ecological research. We also support independent student projects and actively promote collaboration between universities, researchers, and local communities.

Our work aims to address critical knowledge gaps in poorly studied regions and taxa, generating reliable data that can directly inform conservation strategies. In many parts of Colombia, species remain insufficiently documented — and some are yet to be formally described by science.

To expand the scope and impact of our research, we welcome support for upcoming studies and field expeditions, biodiversity surveys in remote or understudied regions, and taxonomic research dedicated to the description of new species. Contributions may help finance specific expeditions or research lines. In cases where newly described species result directly from funded research, formal species dedication — in accordance with international zoological nomenclature rules — may be considered as a form of recognition.

Descriptions of our ongoing and upcoming research projects will be published here as results and expeditions develop.

Creation of publications and outreach content

Science only has value if it is shared.

FEDIC FAUNA produces educational and divulgative content designed to make knowledge about Colombia’s fauna accessible, engaging, and scientifically accurate for diverse audiences. We translate research findings and field experience into materials that inform, inspire, and strengthen environmental awareness across communities.

outreach projects

Our outreach work includes:

  • Illustrated infographics and educational posts for social media

  • Posters and flyers for distribution in schools and rural communities

  • Educational booklets and field guides

  • Technical reports and conference materials

  • Public talks and presentations

  • Development of divulgative and educational books

  • Visual storytelling projects focused on wildlife and conservation

Our goal is to bridge the gap between scientific knowledge and society — ensuring that wildlife is not only studied, but also understood and valued.

We also collaborate with institutions, organizations, and individuals who wish to commission specific educational materials or support the production of larger outreach projects, including books and comprehensive publications. Through sponsorship or direct collaboration, partners can contribute to the dissemination of reliable, high-quality information about Colombia’s biodiversity.
